Questions or Concerns

1. What is ``Service of Process``?

Service of process is the procedure by which a party to a lawsuit gives an appropriate notice of initial legal action to another party (such as a defendant), court, or administrative body in an effort to exercise jurisdiction over that person so as to enable that person to respond to the proceeding before the court, body, or other tribunal.
Notice is furnished by delivering a set of court documents (called “process”) to the person to be served.

3. How much does it cost to hire a process server?

The price varies from location to location but the average is roughly 65-95 dollars per defendant. Many times process serving companies will charge high prices for out of state serves or even for out of county serves, but Precedent Legal Services believes in fair pricing not price gouging.

5. How do I know if your company is a good one to handle our service of process?

The first thing that we would recommend, is to check reviews such as ours on Google, look at professional affiliations and most importantly ask around. Precedent Legal Services was founded by legal professionals for legal professionals. Precedent Legal Services is bonded and we are a member of the National Association of Professional Process Servers (NAPPS).

7. Are you a law firm or can you give me legal advice?

Precedent Legal Services is a litigation support company that generally caters to law firms. If you are a “pro per” or are representing yourself, we can assist you in service of process and courier type orders, but we cannot provide legal advice or assist you in the preparation of legal paperwork.

2. Why should I use a process server?

Process servers are used because we are an independent party thats only purpose is to make sure that the defendant(s) are legally put on notice of the lawsuit pending before the court.

4. Are there laws that govern process servers?

Like most professions there are rules and procedures that govern how service of process is carried out. You can check out your states legislative information website to see the rules that govern process servers within your state.

6. Do you offer any other services?

Precedent legal is not a jack of all trades we are your “Total Law Firm Solution”. Many attorney services are a jack of all trades and a master of none. Precedent Legal Services has taken the time to prefect each service we offer so that if you need a basic copy job or us to help you prepare for trial we can deliver outstanding service every time.

8. Does your company charge to advance fees?

Precedent Legal Services believes that these types of charges are the old way of doing business and therefore does not charge the typical fee advance charges as long as we are paid within 15 days of you or your firm receiving our invoice. If we are paid after that we do assess a 10% fee advance charge for the face value amount of the fee advanced.
