Should You Really Outsource Service of Process?

The short answer is yes, but we should probably provide you with a few reasons. After all, the first process servers were sheriffs. It wouldn’t cost your firm money to use local law enforcement to serve people with papers. Although it may cost you something more valuable, and that brings us to our reasons your firm needs process servers.

  • Your time is valuable – You can’t waste your own time delivering papers, and you can’t wait for the sheriff if he has to put off your documents for a local emergency. A third party process server only has one job, so you get those documents into the defendant’s hands as soon as possible.
  • You want experienced process servers – If you hire NAPPS members, then you know that they are experienced. That means the documents will be delivered correctly for your state and that the servers themselves will have experience with adversarial situations.
  • You may get more benefits – If you hire a legal services provider who offers more than just process servers, then you may be able to streamline all sorts of things at the offices. That frees up you and your associates to do more billable stuff, which is always the direction you want to go in.
